Sarah Deere-Jones - Acoustic Concerts, Albums & Compositions
An outstanding peformer of traditional & original music for harp and voice, Sarah has been a guest artist at the major harp festivals around the world including the Edinburgh Harp Festival UK, Somerset festival in New York, Blue Mountain Harp Holiday Australia, Wales International harp festival, Big Sky in Montana USA and the Lorient & Dinan Festivals Brittany. Often accompanied on guitar by husband Phil Williams, her music is an exciting blend of subtle & dazzling arrangements of traditional tunes and haunting singing of folk songs as well as her original pieces for harp which have broken new ground for the lever harp and have been included in exam lists for harp students around the world. Sarah's historical research into the small harp has unearthed a history of it in England that goes back as far as the 10th century, therefore reclaiming it's role for playing traditional music and songs of the English genre. So as well as some Irish and Scottish staples the majority of her music is from southern England and particularly Dorset where she was born and brought up. |

Sarah's classical piece for traditional harp & SATB chamber choir - Carmina Iocunda - 'Songs for the Seasons' A collection of 8 Medieval poems set as choral songs with harp accompaniment in a format similar to Britten's famous 'Ceremony of carols'. Click the image below for a brief YouTube sample Sarah says of 'Carmina Iocunda' - "This work is really a combination of everything I love - Medieval literature, the English countryside, the changing seasons, choral music and of course, the sound of the harp." There are two songs for each of the four seasons of the year, the texts are mostly anonymous but one poem is by Chaucer and another is a Shakespeare sonnet. The whole work takes around 22 minutes to perform. Printed parts are available for hire, contact us for details. Sarah is happy to provide the accompaniment herself or can recommend another harpist in your area. |
